The Amazing Million Dollar Arm Premiere at the El Capitan Theater in Hollywood

Million Dollar Arm ReviewThanks to Mary Jo from themommers.com for the use of this photo.

Million Dollar Arm. I’ve seen the movie twice in the past five days and I just want to tell everyone, Go see this movie!

The official release date for the movie is May 16, 2014, but here’s a surprise: Million Dollar Arm will be sneaking into over 500 movie theaters across the US this Saturday night (5/10). You can check your local listings (click here and see the search for Million Dollar Arm and click buy tickets) on Fandango to find it at a theater near you. Trust me. If it’s showing near you I definitely think you should go see it. You won’t regret it!

million dollar arm reviewWhen I shared the news that I was invited to attend the Hollywood premiere of Million Dollar Arm I honestly didn’t know what to expect from the movie, but I knew enough to be nothing but excited about attending a red carpet premiere at the El Capitan theater!

The premiere of Million Dollar Arm was an interactive experience that truly made me feel like a part of the celebration of the movie. The evening started with viewing the contestants of the Million Dollar Arm pitching contest showing off their throwing skills in the chance to win $1 million!

Million Dollar Arm reviewIt was pretty astounding to see nine men all pitching at least 86 mph. There was so much talent displayed in that fast contest I ended up feeling a little disappointed that they all didn’t win. The only way to win the $1 million prize was to pitch at 100 mph during their time on the pitchers mound at the contest, and no contestant was able to do it.

Even so, all nine finalists received a $500 gift package from Rawlings, a gift package from Under Armour and tickets to the ESPY awards. To top it all off, the contestant who pitched the fastest also received a contract for representation with legendary sports agent J.B. Bernstein (that’s who Million Dollar Arm is based on)!

After the pitching contest we saw that the red carpet was actually a green astroturf carpet to fit the baseball theme of the movie. (I’m definitely not a vet at going to movie premieres, but it was fun that there was also a green carpet at the Disney/Pixar Brave premiere that I attended a few years ago).

There movie premiere was definitely a star-studded event, but I was honestly too caught up in looking around to remember to take photos! Thankfully Disney provided a few to showcase who was in attendance:

Suraj Sharma and Madhur Mittal Million Dollar ArmThese two definitely played the most touching characters in the movie, and their acting skills are nothing short of brilliant.

Suraj Sharma (Rinku) and Madhur Mittal (Dinesh) are likely recognizable from their previous roles in two huge films: Suraj Sharma starred in Life of Pi and Madhur Mittal was in Slumdog Millionaire. They’re both absolutely fantastic in this Million Dollar Arm.

And the real-life athletes and agent who provided all the inspiration for the movie were in attendance: Rinku Dinesh Jb BernsteinFrom left to right: Rinku Singh, Dinesh Patel and JB Bernstein.

Before the movie started I was thrilled to be seated directly in front of Pitobash, who plays Amit in Million Dollar Arm. I turned around and told him how much I loved his acting and his character in the film and he was quite possibly the sweetest man alive in how thankful he was!

Attending the premiere of Million Dollar Arm at the El Capitan theater was an incredible, unforgettable experience and I’m so excited to share more about the actors and the movie in the next week!

More Gwyneth Paltrow Interview Details + It’s All Good Cookbook Review #IronMan3Event

DSC_7238A few days ago I wrote about my Gwyneth Paltrow interview opportunity. She was so likeable and so real–I loved everything about the interview!

About half the interview was spent talking about her role as Pepper Potts in Iron Man 3. We spent the rest of the session discussing her new cookbook, It’s All Good: Delicious Easy Recipes That Will Make You Look Good and Feel GreatI really feel like I learned a lot about Gwyneth, her parenting style and her lifestyle in the short time the interview covered!

Here are my favorite parts of the interview:

How did you get into writing cookbooks?

…My son has really bad eczema, so we did his food allergy tests and he’s really allergic to gluten and cow’s milk. I felt so bad for him–not having regular ice cream and meatballs and stuff. So I just started making him a mini-encyclopedia of totally yummy comfort food that’s just on his diet.

What advice do you have regarding the best nutrition?

A nutritionist once told me that the way we’ve changed our diet in the last 50 years is crazy. Like, if you showed our great grandmothers the way we’re eating they’d be like, This isin’t even food. What are you doing?

So, the nutritionist told me, when you’re at the supermarket, shop the periphery. That’s where all the fresh food is. That’s where the chicken, fish, beef, everything is. Avoid the aisles–tha’ts where all the processed food is.

My philosophy at home is always: try to cook really healthy at home because I can’t control what they eat at friends’ houses. I don’t want to.I want them to be autonomous and make their own choices and have a life.

But I think that that’s their balance. I try to cook healthy at home,a and then out, I’ll eat whatever I want to.

Do you cook with your kids?

Oh, yes. My son, especially, is really, really into it. We cook something together every weekend. I actually think the kitchen is an amazing place to interact and teach kids. It’s such quality time of interacting but you’re also making dinner. Like you’re actually doing something.

interview with gwyneth paltrowAfter a fantastic interview where I learned more than I ever dreamed I’d learn about Gwyneth Paltrow’s life, I received an autographed copy of her new cookbook!

I admit that I have good intentions, but I’m not the healthiest cook in the world. Nevertheless, there are some fantastic-looking recipes in It’s All Good! I didn’t have time to actually make any of the foods featured in the cookbook, but here are a few pictures I snapped of recipes that I truly can’t wait to try:

honey-sesame-carrots

Carrots with Black Sesame and Ginger

sauteed corn with chimichurriSauteed Corn with Chimichurri

the best green juiceI’m most excited to try The Best Green Juice! It’s described as “Just as energizing as a cup of coffee with non of the letdown.” With ingredients like Kale, lemon, apple and ginger, it sounds healthy and refreshing!

There are a wide variety of recipes in the cookbook, and it covers everything from eggs to brownies to oatmeal! Even if you’re not looking for a cookbook that fits a special diet requirement, there will be plenty of recipes that will be good for your family in It’s All Good!

An Interview with Gwyneth Paltrow: Everything My Grandma {And Everyone Else} Wants to Know! #IronMan3Event

gwyneth paltrow candid photoI’m a longtime fan of Gwyneth Paltrow. I loved her in Sliding Doors. Shakespeare in Love is one of the loveliest films I’ve ever seen and, more recently, I’ve been thinking that she’s rocked her role as Pepper Potts in the Iron Man and The Avengers movies.

When I heard that I was going to participate in an interview with Gwyneth Paltrow before the Iron Man 3 premiere I was so super excited I could hardly contain myself. I also knew just the person who would be the most thrilled when she heard the news: my grandma. She’s a celebrity-watcher and I knew she’d want to know all about it, especially those details like what Gwyneth really looked like, how she acted and what she was wearing.

My grandma isn’t online, but I thought of her throughout the entire interview, and I’ve been mentally writing this post to share the details about my fantastic interview with not only her, but with all of you, my favorite readers!

The interview was set up in a small group setting, with 24 other bloggers and I sitting in a few rows of folding chairs waiting patiently for Gwyneth to show up and stand in front of us for questions.

We were alerted that she had entered the building and then she burst into the room. She kicked off the meeting exclaiming “Wow!” with a giant smile when she saw all of us sitting and waiting for her.

Then she stood in front of stacks of her new book and started autographing each one as she took our questions.

Here are a few of my favorite questions and answers from the interview. I think they really say a lot about her warm personality and energetic spirit:

How did you feel when you were picked to be on the cover of People Magazine’s Most Beautiful issue?

Honestly,  Steven [She gestured to a man who was standing just to the right of her], this man has been my publicist since I was nineteen years old, and he sent me the email and I was like, This is a typo.

I reread it three times, and then…I got this really weird old feeling that my school bully somehow was playing a trick on me. I swear, I went through this whole weird thing! I had to talk to my shrink about it! I was beyond surprised, flattered, and I still kinda can’t believe it. It’s, it’s really cool.

How does it feel to be that strong [as Pepper Potts in the Iron Man suit]?

I loved it so much.  I was getting kind of like, Come on, guys.  All these boys are flying around doing all this fun stuff. I loved how patient and kind and sweet Pepper is, but, but when I read this script, I thought, Oh yeah.

Pepper is in the suit and flying around, and I loved doing the stunts. I really had never done anything like that before and it was really fun.  I felt like I should’ve been doing this my whole career. It was like, Why am I doing all these period films? It’s so boring.

Are we going to see you in more action films?

I don’t know. I would really like to, but really [laughs], am I old now to start being in action movies?

In the comics, Pepper Potts gets her own suit and she becomes a character called Rescue. The nice thing is is that everybody’s been very sweet about Pepper in this movie.  All the journalists who came in were like, Oh my God, you have to have your own movie! We need a Rescue movie! And I’m thinking, Okay, well, I’d better hit the gym!

What color would you choose for your own Iron Man suit?

Gray, silver and white. My favorite colors.

What’s it like working with Robert Downey Jr.?

It’s so fun. He’s really spontaneous, and genius with improvising. You’re really on your toes. It’s really interesting, actually , to see how all these different actors, their processes and how they work.

Jeff Bridges, on the first Iron Man movie, he had binders full of research. Everything was underlined and highlighted. There were graphs!

Then Robert would come in, read the scene and rip it up. He’s say Nope. We’re not doing it. Let’s make it up. And poor Jeff Bridges would be dying, because he had memorized everything! Then, as the woman, I’m like, Let’s keep everyone happy.

But I personally loved it. It was really fun. You never knew what was going to happen, which I love. Jeff Bridges, however, did not love it!

Robert creates a fun environment, and my kids [who were on set] just love him so much. It was a nice shoot. When you work with someone over and over again that you really love, and that environment is really familial, the kids feel it. Everybody feels it. It really was so great.

As the interview started to wrap up, I realized that I’d had the biggest smile on my face for nearly the entire time Gwyneth Paltrow answered our questions. I truly can’t believe how personable she was and how she was able to make her A-list lifestyle so relatable. I think everyone in the room can agree that it was like we were catching up with a friend, not interviewing the World’s Most Beautiful Woman!

Interview with gwyneth paltrow candid photoAnd wow, is she ever deserving of that Most Beautiful Woman title! She was dressed in a gorgeous white outfit and, let me tell you, I’ve never I’ve never seen anyone who radiated light and energy like she did. I think she has an inexplicable star quality, that certain something that makes the world take notice.

It’s easy to come up with thoughts that celebrities are sort of plastic figures that you canI can’t say this with any authority, but my gut tells me that Gwyneth Paltrow is simply a good person. Shortly after the spoke of working with the same publicist for 20 years, she pointed out another woman in the room and said, “There’s Julia, my best friend since seventh grade.” She’s had the same best friend since years before her acting career began! She also spoke lovingly of her children, her costars and her family.

Interview with gwyneth paltrow personal detailsEven after the interview was over, Gwyneth remained friendly and approachable. Several bloggers hovered around her and she spent time having a brief conversation with them before being escorted away. She was so engaging and so warm, it felt like I was saying goodbye to a friend when she left the conference room.

And my grandma? She was just as interested and enthralled with the entire experience as I was!

interview with gwyneth paltrowI’m actually only sharing half of my interview with Gwyneth Paltrow. She spoke extensively about her new book, It’s All Good, and the story behind its creation.  I have so much more to share about her and her life!

Keep your eyes open for a follow-up article with more personal and exclusive details about Gwyneth Paltrow. You won’t be disappointed!

The Star-Studded Red Carpet: The Iron Man 3 Hollywood Premiere at The El Capitan Theater

Iron Man 3 Cast Hollywood Premiere

I think everyone looks back on a particular time and wonders, Did that really just happen? I’ve been asking myself exactly that since just before I went to sleep at 1am last Thursday.

minnesota mom blogger

Wednesday, April 25th was one surreal experience after another. I, a little mom blogger, had arrived in Los Angeles the previous day to meet up with 24 other influential mom bloggers and cover the Iron Man 3 Hollywood premiere.

After an amazing day filled with surprises and celebrities, I thought I was prepared to attend the red carpet premiere of Iron Man 3.

Looking back, nothing could have prepared me for the actual experience of the red carpet premiere for iron Man 3. It was quite possibly one of the most memorable experiences of my life.

After getting dressed up and taking advantage of photo ops with friends, we waited on side street around the corner from the theater until our Disney leader got the go-ahead that we were ready to walk.

robert downey junior in audi at iron man 3

That go-ahead came immediately after the above image flashed alongside us–engine revving, sporting a license plate reading Stark16 and surrounded by LAPD officers on bicycles.

It didn’t take long to realize that the star of Iron Man 3, Robert Downey Jr. was driving the car to make his own grand entrance onto the red carpet. He was gone in a flash, but the screaming fans right around the corner indicated that he wasn’t too far ahead of us.

As it turns out, I ended up being behind him for a moment before he stepped onto the red carpet for a moment. Granted, there was a crowd, security guards and barricades between us, but I’m pretty sure That’s the closest I’ll ever get to Robert Downey Jr.!
The star of the movie was quickly whisked away from the crowds and I started my own walk down the red carpet.

minnesota mom bloggers

The red carpet for Iron Man 3 was thrilling in its intensity. All the screaming fans, police offers, security guards, camera, film crews, celebrity reporters and genuine ceremony definitely made for an unforgettable moment.

My good friend Chrysa from ThriftyJinxy and I paired up so we could take a few pictures of each other as we made our way to the movie entrance, (she took that photo of us together) but I swear I was so shaky and star-struck I’m lucky I even remembered to take photos on my own!

iron man 3 premiereAfter all the celebrity-spotting (and feeling a bit famous myself!) we were ushered into the El Capitan Theater to watch Iron Man 3. I’ll have a review of the movie posted a little later this week, but if you’re wondering if it’s really that good, the answer is YES, it’s that good!

Attending Disney/Pixar’s BRAVE Green Carpet Premier {And a Gigantic THANK YOU!}

baby dealsLast Monday I was feeling incredibly fortunate to even be in Los Angeles, let alone attend the premier of Disney/Pixar’s newest movie, Brave. But there I was, press credentials around my neck, able to walk the green Astroturf “carpet” with a slew of stars before viewing the movie at the Dolby Theater.

Attending the premier was exhilarating. I knew we wouldn’t be able to linger on the walk into the theater, and I’m thankful my phone had the camera-reversing self-portrait feature! I barely had time to take a a handful of pictures on the fly before I was ushered into the theater. While they aren’t my best photos, I’m happy that I was at least able to document the experience and share it with all of you. The Walt Disney Studios also provided some pictures to show the entire setting and how magical it was.

The top photo is me just after stepping onto the green carpet. I wish I looked a bit more excited to be experiencing the entire event. Believe me, I was thrilled on the inside!

baby dealsThis photo is the “official” photo of the green carpet before the festivities started. It’s as big as it looks! There are two sides of the carpet that are divided by the red velvet rope. Important people walk on the wider side. I walked on the narrow side 🙂

Even as we approached the theater we could hear the sound of bagpipes playing. As a film based in Scotland, it made the entire experience pretty majestic!

baby dealsMerida, the star of the movie, made a live-action appearance at the premier. I wasn’t around for her arrival, and I wish I could have seen it!

This is a huge 3-dimensional backdrop for celebrity photos. A few people in our group were able to get in front of it for a photo but I wasn’t one of them.

This is a photo I snapped that captured me with a larger-than-life image of Merida, the main character from the movie. I love how it looks like she’s staring right into the camera!

Our group leader was able to round up almost all of our entire group in between the red carpet and the theater for a quick group photograph before going to get our popcorn and 3D glasses. I’m so happy I was with such an amazing group of bloggers for this event! (I’m the one that’s farthest to the left).

I’m at a bit of a loss for words when it comes to describing the entire evening of Brave’s green carpet and movie premier. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that wouldn’t have come true without this blog and, in turn, without all of you, my dear readers. While I have Disney to thank for the invite and the experience, I want to express a huge THANK YOU to all readers for making this possible!

Brave opened on June 22, 2012. I’ve seen it, I loved it and I’m ready to see it again! You can read my Brave movie review, then stay tuned for another Brave-themed post coming your way tomorrow!

I’m Going to the Red Carpet Premier of Disney/Pixar’s BRAVE! #BraveCarsLandEvent

baby dealsA few days ago I, a little Minnesota mom blogger, received an email that literally had me jumping up and down with excitement. Here’s the most important text from it:

Hello Marybeth!

We would like to invite you to a very special Disney and Pixar hosted event in June…This will include Disney/Pixar’s Brave, DreamWorks Pictures’ People Like Us, getting a sneak peak of Tim Burton’s Frankenweenie and attending Cars Land at Disneyland’s California Adventure park!

My little ones were sleeping and my grandma was napping on my couch so I had to cover my mouth to muffle in the squeal that came out! I danced outside and called my husband and my sister to share the amazing news and get childcare arrangements in place.

After jumping around for a few more seconds, I went back inside and tried very hard to limit my capital letters, exclamation points and excessive gratitude while confirming my attendance with the Disney folks.

Those of you who have been reading here for a while know that I rarely travel for blog trips. Compared to other bloggers I so admire, I’m definitely a homebody. Going to learn about KFC in February was my first ever brand blog trip, and I’ve only been to two other small conferences in the years since I started writing. To jump from those few experiences to a red carpet premier of a movie I’m dying to see, my first trip to Disneyland, a screening of a Dreamworks movie and a full itinerary of Disney, Pixar and Dreamworks events is almost more than I can handle!

baby dealsI’ll be sharing this experience with 24 other influential bloggers. Here are a few highlights of the trip that I am so excited about:

  • Brave is the inaugural movie premier at the all-new Dolby Theater in Hollywood, which is where the Academy Awards are held!
  • We’ll be staying at the beautiful, brand new Hilton Garden Inn AND the recently renovated Disneyland Hotel.
  • We’ll receive a special tour of Cars Land at Disney’s California Adventure Park
  • We’re going to participate in a roundtable interview with Kelly Macdonald (voice of “Merida”), Kevin McKidd (voice of “Lord MacGuffin”), Director Mark Andrews and Producer Katherine Sarafian.

There’s so much more on the agenda but I can’t fit it all in one post. I’m so thrilled to be participating and I’m super excited to share my experiences with all of you! Be sure to follow me on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest to virtually travel with me to the event!

If you have any questions about Brave, People Like Us, Cars Land or anything else I’ll be taking part in next month, I’m going to do my best to get them answered by the right people! Please leave a comment sharing what you’d like to know. I’ll take all questions with me when I go next month.
