Reader Karen recently emailed me asking me to ask readers on The Good Nite Lite.
We recently moved our son into his “big boy” bed. Now, we are struggling with him waking up every day about 1-2 hours earlier than usual. After looking around a bit I found the Good Nite Lite and I’m very interested in purchasing it. It is expensive for a night light, $34.99 plus shipping, but the reviews look really great. It was also recently featured in in a parenting magazine. There is currently a 2-3 week back log of orders on the company’s website.
Have any Baby GoodBuys readers tried The Good Nite Lite? Do you have any suggestions for alternatives to this expensive product? Any insight or ideas would be appreciated. Please share in the comments.

An inexpensive idea is to buy a plug in timer and attach it to a small light in the bedroom. Just set the timer to the wake up time you want for your child. Then you tell them that if the light is on, they can get out of bed-if the light is not on, they have to lay back down. Make up a sticker reward chart to go along with it to help reinforce staying in bed until the morning light comes on. It worked for us!

wow, that is really pricey for a night light!! I agree with Joslin, you can just get a 5 dollar timer, and attach it to any light you wanted. If you wanted something with a sun, you could even just get a little table lamp with a white shade and paint a sun on it yourself. That and a timer would run you about 10 bucks. : )

We actually have this and have loved it. I know it is pricey but I heard good things about it and we are happy that we purchased it. We enjoy our sleep!

Hi Marybeth —
I haven't seen this yet, but the timer option is also good and maybe your son can pick out his own. The face on this one would not necessarily be one I'd want to see in the night — but that's just me. 🙁
On a lighter note — I just listed you as one of my 15 winners for a Lovely Blog Award. Come by to pick up your award and to see your name in lights. 😀

We have this as well. Although it is pricy, we needed something that my daughter could relate to since she wanted to me awake as long as either she was awake or their was daylight outside. So, this did the trick and was worth the money to us.

I must say, I love the timer idea. I wondered about this night light as well, but it is pricey. Thanks so much for the timer tip. Money is tight and I agree, that face is creepy and would probably give my kids nightmares. So I'll gladly take the timer option. Thanks.

I have a similar nightlight that I got through Amazon – but it is also a clock that has a teaching component to it, so that it can also "talk" and help the child learn how to tell time. It's completely programmable so that it can be used with the nightlight or not – which means our kids can use it well into their teen years. It was expensive – I think I paid $39 – but it was worth every penny to me!
I do like the other reader's idea of using a timer switch with a regular night light. That would be much less expensive.

I have used the GoodNiteLite for about a year now, and the price is certainly worth the extra 2 hours of sleep I get every morning. I think I saw that lite you are referring to on Amazon for $49, plus shipping. Price aside, what is your time worth?
