Homemade Scented Playdough Recipe
Bring “Beauty and the Beast” into your playtime activities with this Enchanted Rose homemade scented playdough recipe! You don’t need to add a scent to make playdough fun, but adding a lovely aroma with a story behind it turns it into a true sensory activity for kids.
Homemade Scented Playdough
I love both the live action and animated versions of Beauty and the Beast. I thought it would be fun to come up with some Beauty and the Beast activities for kids to incorporate the characters into play time.
Nothing has ever been more fun for my daughter than homemade scented playdough; now I have a new scented playdough recipe that brings one of our favorite Disney princesses into the activity!
The enchanted rose plays a huge part in the plot of the movie. If you’re not familiar, here’s a super-quick summary:
A long time ago in a faraway land, a young prince lived in a shining castle…just kidding! That’s not a quick summary. But I swear I had that whole introduction memorized when I was younger!
The significance of the enchanted rose in Beauty and the Beast:
The beast used to be a prince. The prince was mean and one night he refused to help an old woman. She cursed him, turned him in to a beast and gave him a magic rose.
If he didn’t learn the meaning of true love by the time the last petal fell off the Enchanted Rose, he would remain a beast forever.
You might guess what happens in the movie, and I love that Disney made the rose into it’s own significant character.
The enchanted rose is more gorgeous and meaningful than ever in the new version of the film, making this Enchanted Rose homemade scented playdough even more symbolic!
Of course, you don’t need to add a scent to the homemade playdough recipe to make it fun; playdough is already a sensory activity. But the addition of a lovely aroma with a story associated with it turns this into a true sensory activity for children!
How to play with homemade scented playdough
It’s pretty obvious from all my pictures that we used some fun Beauty and the Beast toys to play with the Enchanted Rose homemade scented playdough.
The homemade scented playdough washes off easily enough with soap and water, but the toys themselves might not stand up to a ton of washing.
I think you can use any plastic toy in the playdough, but I’d also be sure to use toys that you’re sure can suffer wear and tear without breaking your kids’ hearts!
You can also skip the characters and traditional toys in favor of kid-friendly tools made for use with playdough:
