It’s no secret that I’m a frugal mom. I’m very conscious of what we spend on pretty much everything, and I’ve found that lots of times the truly “green” choice is also the most cost-effective one! In the past few years we’ve had to replace several major appliances, and we opted for high-efficiency washers and dryers instead of the one that cost less up front. My husband and I knew that we would be saving much more over the long run by conserving power and water. Plus, it’s so much better for our planet!
The same holds true for light bulbs. We use energy-efficient bulbs in almost every light fixture in our home. They cost a bit more, but they last way longer and use far less energy than their incandescent counterparts. I had always used compact-fluorescent bulbs, but I didn’t know energy-efficient light bulbs came in any other forms. I had the opportunity to try out Sylvania Halogen SuperSaver light bulbs, which are powered with halogen.
The first thing I noticed with the SuperSaver bulbs was the quality of light. If you’ve ever used a compact-fluorescent bulb in a light fixture, you probably know that the shades of light are generally cooler and bluer than incandescent lights. The Sylvania SuperSaver Halogen bulbs are much warmer and more natural-looking. Plus, they actually look like regular light bulbs! They’re really shaped like bulbs, instead of the twirly tubes of the florescent bulbs. At the same time, these light bulbs will save us up to 33% of the energy used in incandescent bulbs! They’re also mercury-free (better for the environment) and work with dimmers.
You can buy SYLVANIA SuperSaver Light Bulb at a store near you or online at the Sylvania online store for $4.29 for a pack of two bulbs.
I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central on behalf of SYLVANIA and received products necessary to facilitate my candid review. In addition, I received a gift certificate to thank me for taking the time to participate.
