Suzie is a mommy to three amazing little kiddos! She has been married her my best friend for almost 8 years, and they have two “furry kids” and a foster dog or two at any given time! Suzie is a stay at home mom who loves to save money and recently started “super couponing.”
I recently started clipping coupons to save money. Like most people, I used to get my one Sunday paper, flipped through it, and thought to myself Even after the coupon, its cheaper to buy the off brand. That is were I was totally mistaken. I was going about it all wrong! After talking to a few friends online and reading several great websites I got to experience my first real “coupon high”!
There are several tricks to saving BIG with coupons:
1. You need to have coupons! I buy four Sunday papers a week and then ask friends and family if I can have their extra coupon inserts. A good rule of thumb I have heard is that you want one paper per member of your household. So a family of four should have four newspapers! If that seems like a lot, you can start off with two and go from there. Also remember that you can also get some great coupons online. You have to hunt for some of them, but coupons.com always has good coupons, and you can print two of them!
2. Watch for sales and deals! When you use a coupon on a sale or discounted item you are getting more “bang for your buck.” This is really the BEST deal! For example: Target is having a sale on diapers, so your “usual” brand of $10 diapers are only $8 this week. Now say they have a store coupon for $3 off. plus you have a manufacturers coupon for $2 off you got out of the paper; you can now stack these two coupons together (a manufacturer & a store coupon) to maximize your savings! Here’s how the deal would work:
Diapers = $8
– $3 Store coupon
– $2 Manufacturer coupon
Final price = $3! That’s $3 for diapers that are regularly priced at $10. Even the store brand price usually doesn’t even come close to that!
NOW imagine you have several manufacturer coupons from your multiple Sunday papers and your able to do this deal 3 or 4 or more times! This is called stockpiling.
3. Stockpiling! This is when you are able to score a great deal, you then buy several of the item and store it at home. Usually by the time you use up all of your item in your home stockpile the same sale or a similar one will come back around allowing you to rebuild or add to your stockpile! In return you don’t have to pay retail for that item!
These are just three simple starter tricks to saving big with coupons. There are lots of ways to put those weekly coupons to good use! And you would be surprised at what all you can save on for the kiddos with coupons. Not only do you score food, diapers, wipes and such with coupons, but a lot of stores offer great coupons for clothing (Gap, Old Navy, The Children’s Place) and baby must haves like furniture, car seats, etc (Toys R Us, Diapers.com). Use coupons at these stores paired with clearance or seasonal sales and once again you could score major savings!
I hope I have helped show you a little on how you can save big money by clipping those coupons! I want to say a big THANK YOU to Marybeth and Baby Goodbuys for letting me share my love for coupons with you all!
