Free Letter L Tracing Worksheet

Letter L is one of the easiest letters to form, making it a great early win for kids who are just beginning to write. This free printable letter L tracing worksheet covers uppercase L and lowercase l with dashed letter outlines.

What’s on This Worksheet

  • Rows of dashed uppercase L outlines to trace
  • Rows of dashed lowercase l outlines to trace
  • Combined uppercase and lowercase rows to trace together
  • A picture of a lion to color

This worksheet prints on one standard sheet of 8.5 x 11 printer paper.

A Few Tips

Uppercase L is a tall line down, then a line across the bottom to the right. The corner should be a clean right angle — kids who rush tend to round it. Slowing down at the turn helps.

Lowercase l can be confused with the number 1. They look nearly identical in many fonts, which can confuse early readers and writers. Point out that lowercase l is a letter and always appears in words, while 1 is a number.

Use L to build confidence. Because it only takes two lines (or one, for lowercase), L is a good letter to return to when a child is feeling frustrated learning harder letters. A quick successful L session is a good confidence reset before tackling something trickier.
