Frugal Baby: How to Make Your Own Tutu

Ever since I found out I was going to have a daughter, I've become obsessed with all things pink, frothy and pretty. According to my mom, I was never a girly-girl, but somehow I want to dress my daughter up in nothing but cotton-candy-pink, fluffy, fancy clothes that just scream I'm a baby girl!

And what's more girly and frothy than a tutu? I can't think of anything! Ever since I saw Becoming-Mom's photo shoot of a birthday party for adorable twin girls in matching tutus, I've decided that I need one for my baby. But how could I spend $24 (pictured above) to >$98 on something so frivolous?

Thank goodness for the internet! In less than 10 minutes, I was able to round up not one, but two sets of instructions on how to make the easiest tutus ever! Wouldn't these make the best party favors for a birthday party? How about a stocking stuffer for a little girl in your life? A quick scan of this tutorial shows that tulle can cost less than $1 a yard, and you only need between 2 and 8 yards to complete your tutu! Now that's a frugal tutu!

Here are the two sets of instructions:

So cute! I was the same way with my daughter- you should see the MOUNTAIN of fancy dresses she has (most of them bought by her great-grandmother who has the same girly baby clothes obsession I do). This sounds like a fun and inexpensive Christmas gift for my daughter. I have a son arriving next month. No tutus for him, ha ha!
