A Few Tips
“Straight line down and then you’re done. Now you’ve made a number one!” Use the rhyme as you’re demonstrating how to write the number. Then repeat it as your child does it on her own. This is the simplest number to form, which makes it a great confidence builder for kids just starting out.
The stroke guide shows the correct top-to-bottom direction. Reinforce that habit early since it carries through to every other number.
Use the animal. Before tracing, have your child point to the pig and say “one pig.” Connecting the numeral to a real quantity is the foundational step in number sense that tracing alone does not build.
The number recognition activity is harder than it looks. The “Circle every number 1” section mixes in similar-looking characters. Take it slow, and be sure to praise careful searching along with correct answers.
