Number 9 is the last of the counting numbers, and getting it right sets kids up for understanding how to write and learn double digits.

A few tips
“A little circle then down a line, that’s the way to make a nine!” Use the number 9 writing rhyme to help kids remember the steps to making the number. Say it out loud as you demonstrate, then repeat it as your child does it by his or herself. The guide shows forming the circle at the top first, then adding a straight line down from the right side of the circle.
9 and 6 can be reversed, depending on the style. This is the a common number reversal in early writing. If you see it, don’t worry – number reversal is very common in young learners.
Nine sheep is a lot to manage. Use it as an organized counting exercise: point to each sheep in order, moving from left to right across the illustration. Organized counting is a foundational skill that pays off when kids move into addition.
