Free number five tracing sheet

Number 5 is one of the most useful numbers for young kids to master when learning to write numbers.

It’s the anchor for understanding the second half of single digits, and it shows up constantly in early math education.

This printable number 5 worksheet gives preschool and kindergarten kids a clear stroke-order guide, plus five kangaroos to count before they start tracing.

What’s on this sheet

  • A large number 5 with dotted lines, arrows numbered stroke-order guides for tracing.
  • Five kangaroo illustrations for counting and coloring.
  • Two rows of dashed number 5 outlines to trace
  • Color five circles activity
  • Circle every number 5 recognition activity

Prints on standard 8.5″ x 11″ paper.

A few tips

“Down, around and then don’t stop. Finish the five with a line on top“. Use the number writing rhyme as you demonstrate the how to write the digit. This will help your child learn the order or lines for writing the number 5.

5 and 2 are commonly confused. They share a similar curve in the middle. The key difference is direction. Pair this sheet with the number 2 worksheet to help work through each one and see the differences.

Count the kangaroos before tracing. Five is the midpoint of 1-9 and a critical anchor number. Kids who can instantly recognize five objects without counting have a meaningful advantage in early addition and subtraction.
