Free Letter I Tracing Worksheet

Letter I is one of the simplest letters to form, which makes it a great confidence booster for kids who are just getting started learning how to write the alphabet. This free printable letter I tracing worksheet covers uppercase I and lowercase i with dashed letter outlines.

What’s on This Worksheet

  • Rows of dashed uppercase I outlines to trace
  • Rows of dashed lowercase i outlines to trace
  • Combined uppercase and lowercase rows to trace together
  • An picture of an igloo to color

This worksheet prints on one standard sheet of printer paper (8.5″ x 11″).

A Few Tips

Uppercase I has a top line, a tall middle line, and a bottom line. Some printing styles skip the top and bottom serifs and just use a single vertical line – either way is fine, just be consistent with the rest of the material your child is using to learn how to write.

Note the dot. Kids often forget the dot over the lowercase I, or they tend to place it way off to the side. Remind them the dot goes directly above the stick, not next to it.

Don’t overlook this letter when teaching. Because I looks so simple, kids sometimes rush it and develop habits early. A few focused practice sessions builds the clean, consistent formation that carries into words like “in,” “is,” and “it” — some of the first words early readers start learning.
