A Few Tips
U and n are easy to mix up. As another form of number reversal, lowercase U and N are essentially upside-down versions of each other. Have your learning writer practice one of these until it’s mastered, then start having them learn how to write the other.
Trace in salt or sand. Pour a thin layer of salt or sand into a shallow tray or baking dish. Kids trace the letter with one finger, then let them shake or smooth it to reset it. The texture and sound of the salt make it a sensory, engaging experience.
Lowercase u ends with a small upward flick. After the curve, the second line comes back up and ends with a short flick before lifting the pencil. This prepares kids for connected writing later and is worth reinforcing even at the printing stage.
