Free Letter W Tracing Worksheet
Letter W is essentially two V’s side by side, which makes it one of the wider letters on the page. That’s something little kids need to get used to when learning how to write letters.
This free printable letter W tracing worksheet gives preschool and kindergarten kids dashed letter outlines for uppercase W and lowercase w so they can manage all four diagonals without losing track.
What’s on This Worksheet
- Rows of dashed uppercase W outlines to trace
- Rows of dashed lowercase w outlines to trace
- Combined uppercase and lowercase rows to trace together
- A whale picture to color
One page prints on a standard 8.5″ x 11″ sheet of paper.
A Few Tips
W is four diagonals: down, up, down, up. Each pair makes a V shape, and the two V’s sit side by side. Kids who already know V find W much easier once you explain it that way.
Trace it with their non-dominant hand first. This sounds counterintuitive, but tracing with the weaker hand first can make the dominant hand feel more capable and confident when it takes over.
Give W plenty of space. Because it is a wide letter, kids sometimes compress it and end up with something that looks like two n’s squished together. Encourage them to let it spread out and use the full width of the dashed outline.
