Frugal Baby: Make Your Own Baby Wrap, Moby Wrap

I think there’s something really special about babywearing, and I’ll be the first to admit I’ve tried multiple methods to find what works for my babies and me. I own a Baby Bjorn, a Lillebaby, a Snugli, a sling, a Mei Tai, a Sleepy Wrap and a Moby Wrap (pictured above).

I just read that list and I’m a little surprised that I don’t wear my little ones more often given the amount of baby carriers I actually own! I’ve got to get on that!

Although I purchased some carriers, I received two as gifts and a few to review for this site, I have to say that the product that gets the most rave reviews among the “Mom” forums that I visit is the Moby Wrap. I got mine as a gift, but I was very surprised when I opened the package: Here was simply yards and yards of fabric. Yes, it was a certain length and width. Yes, it was finished off and it had the fancy “Moby” tag. But let me tell you, my mom was a bit appalled that this length of fabric retails for at least $39!

When I started this website and realized that Moby Wraps rarely go on sale, I knew I could find instructions on how to make one for those resourceful moms and moms-to-be out there! I found this fantastic and simple guide to put together your own baby wrap in 5 minutes for $5! It requires fabric and scissors (you don’t even need a sewing machine!), and you can pat yourself on the back for saving so much money!

After you make your wrap, go here to learn about all the different ways you can tie your wrap. If you’re struggling and wondering how to tie a Moby Wrap for the first time, check out this You Tube Video for a great quick-start guide on the basic wrap.

I have that bookmarked, too. :>) I didn't find it until after my daughter was a bit bigger and we were both loving our Ergo. If we're blessed again, though, I already have the perfect fabric in my stash!

You really have to some extra, like 4-5 yds, of fabric laying around, otherwise, it can be cheaper to buy one on craigslist or something…fabric can be EXPENSIVE!
