Free Letter O Tracing Worksheet

The letter O is one continuous stroke and one of the first letters many kids learn to write on their own.

This free printable letter O tracing worksheet covers teaching both uppercase O and lowercase o with dashed letter outlines that reinforce the correct starting point and direction.

What’s on This Worksheet

  • Rows of dashed uppercase O outlines to trace
  • Rows of dashed lowercase o outlines to trace
  • Combined uppercase and lowercase rows to trace together
  • An orange picture to color

This worksheet prints on a standard sheet of printer paper (8.5″ x 11″).

A Few Tips

Start at the 2 o’clock position and go counter clockwise. This is the same starting point as C, and the correct direction for forming O in manuscript printing. Kids who start at the bottom or go clockwise develop habits that slow down their writing later.

Trace it on their back. Use your finger to trace the letter on your child’s back and have them guess which one it is. Then switch – they trace it on your back. A fun break from paper work that reinforces the shape.

A round O takes practice. Many kids who are learning their letters produce an oval or a lopsided shape at first. That is normal. Tracing the dashed outlines repeatedly helps the hand learn what a consistent circle feels like.
