Free Letter P Tracing Worksheet
Letter P is part of the tricky p/q/b/d family of letters that share similar shapes and trip up a lot of kids who are just starting to learn to write the alphabet.
I wrote it in the tips below, but it’s important to teach how to write these four letters separately. Mastering one at a time helps avoid confusion.
This free printable letter P tracing worksheet gives preschool and kindergarten kids dashed letter outlines for uppercase P and lowercase p so they build a solid, confident formation from the start.
What’s on This Worksheet
- Rows of dashed uppercase P outlines to trace
- Rows of dashed lowercase p outlines to trace
- Combined uppercase and lowercase rows to trace together
- A pumpkin picture to color
This worksheet prints on a standard sheet of printer paper (8.5″ x 11″).
A Few Tips
P, q, b, and d are related. They all share the same basic parts: a vertical line and a round bump. Focus on one letter at a time and fully master it before introducing another from this group.
Lowercase p is a descender. The tall line drops below the baseline, and the bump sits on the right side above the baseline. Kids often forget to drop below the baseline or add the bump on the wrong side.
Practice the letter in shaving cream. Spread a thin layer of shaving cream on a cookie sheet and let your kids write with their finger. It’s easy cleanup and adds a lot of fun to learning letters! Kids who resist worksheets often love it.
