It’s no secret that I don’t think disposable training pants should be a big part of your potty training strategy, even if you’re potty training at 18 months.

At the same time, I fully admit that we ended up using Pull-Ups as the best disposable training pants I could find when we were potty training both our boy and our girl.
You might be wondering, why am I contradicting myself? Like I explained in my last post about disposable training pants, I was pretty enthusiastic about being a “big boy” and a “big girl” when Haiden and Piper started potty training.
I also told them over and over again that they were wearing underwear because they were so big.
You might remember that I emphasized potty training during the day and figured that the nights would work themselves out. Because of that I planned on having both my boy and girl wear diapers at night until they woke up with dry diapers for a consistent number of days.
All my encouraging big boy and big girl talk worked like a charm, but it also backfired on me! The kids were more than willing to put on underwear, but they both started refusing to wear diapers at night.
My solution was disposable training pants for night time only. It worked as a compromise for both of my kids. It also had the added bonus of keeping the bedding dry if they did happen to go potty in the middle of the night.
The best disposable training pants
Potty training my boy, Haiden, only took a few days in the daytime but it took a few weeks of night potty training. We quickly learned what the best disposable training pants for boys were.
The same went for my girl, Piper. I’ve outlined how to potty train an 18 month girl because it worked for us and it took two weeks. But the overnights potty training went on for a while. Because of that, we also had the pleasure of finding the best disposable training pants for girls!
Right now, though, I’m just going to focus on the best disposable training pants and why parents love them.

Are you wondering why there are different recommended training pants for daytime and nights? It’s only because some of the training pants and “cool alerts” or react with a cool sensation when they get wet.
That’s great for when your child is awake. The cool alert is like a reminder that they went potty and need to be changed. But do any of us want our little ones waking up with a cold bottom?
Remember, we want to keep potty training positive, so be patient and gentle with over night potty training. The cool alerts aren’t the way to do it at night!

The best disposable training pants from store brands
I fully endorse using generic diapers if you can get them for less than name brands (it’s often easier to get name brand diapers for less than any store brands on Amazon!), but the same just doesn’t seem to be true for disposable training pants.
In the hopes that you’ll only be using disposable training pants for a short amount of time, I recommend saving yourself the trouble and buying a brand you can have confidence in.
If you’re really wanting store brand training pants here’s a summary of recommendations:
Target’s Up & Up disposable training pants reviews generally scream not recommended! Check them out for yourself.
Walmart’s Parent’s Choice disposable training pants have decent but a suspiciously limited number of reviews. Why do these disposable training pants have only 8 or 11 all positive reviews while name brands have thousands of reviews?
The same is true for Walgreens Well Beginnings disposable training pants. The number of reviews is so low – in the single digits – for all of the store brand training pants. Yet the name brands have hundreds of reviews.
In short, there is no best disposable training pants for store brands!
All in all, if you’re planning on using disposable training pants during potty training, I hope you’re planning on using them for specific circumstances and for a limited amount of time.
If there’s one thing to remember, it’s this: use disposable training pants as a tool for potty training, don’t use them thinking they’ll potty train your child for you!
