We all know it: being a mom is challenging. On top of providing the basic food, clothing and shelter for our precious little ones, we also have to do all those other things (you know, get food on the table, keep our homes in order, educate, inspire and so much more) that compel us to simply be good moms to our children.

There are many different special moments I was lucky enough to receive being a mommy of a 5-month old daughter.

Birth – Giving birth was the most beautiful moment in my life. Looking in my daughters eyes gave my life a new meaning.

Smile/Laugh – My daughter’s first real belly laugh. I thought I didn’t hear right, but it sure was a real laugh. It made my heart all warm and fuzzy.

Mya – Just having my daughter Mya around me is making my world brighter. I know now what it means to love someone w/ all your heart. xoxo

I am 2 days shy of being 36 wks pregnant and my pregrancy got off to a scary start. The ultrasound specialist found a heartbeat in my uterus and unfortunately she also found an odd mass in my fallopian tube that had stretched it out significantly. I was in severe pain and around 6ks. I was rushed to the ER where I was told that I had lost a baby in my fallopian tubes and it needed to be removed and I had two options surgery or an injection that would have killed my unborn child I was informed that in all likely hood the baby would die during surgery. The third alternative was that my tubes was going to rupture and both I and the child would bleed to death. I was in dispair I didn’t want the baby harmed so I prayed hard and decided to take my chances with option 1. The surgeon went in thru my navel and made 2 incisions in my abdomen and went in and removed the dead fetus and part of my right ovary. I am blessed to say that my baby girl is due July 3 an although the journey has not been easy I am proud of the decision that I made that day and I pray that the surgery and subsequent medications and other problems haven’t had any lasting effects on her, but I think God for her. This is the best decision I have made thus far as a mom and I know in time there will be many more to come!

I feel so fortunate to have a healthy and happy baby who is now 15 months. I’m in awe of the simple things. Every time she learns something new it amazes me because it usually is something she’s observed but hasn’t been taught. Most amazing has been her love for one of our dogs. They have a bond that I’ve never seen before. I’ll catch Emily (my daughter) giving Molly (dog) hugs or just sitting by her and patting her head. Molly has protected Emily from day 1 even from me. When I was burping Emily for the first time around Molly she got all upset and got in between me and the baby thinking I was hurting her. LOL!

The first two months of my son’s life were memorable! Poor little guy had an undiagnosed milk protein allergy. I can’t forget the hours of screaming. I was so relieved the day he was diagnosed! He was a different, happy child! :)

I have 3 children and I’ve never had anyone take care of them (other than their daddy) a day in their lives. Our families live out of state so we’ve never had any outside help. I pride myself on having been able to raise them and guide them on our own.

As far as a memorable moment, I guess the first one that comes to mind was watching my sons greet their baby sister when she was born in the hospital. They were so surprised to see that she had actually come out of my belly. ;-)

It is hard to pinpoint any one special or inspiring moment because after all my children are 14 and 17 now. I was a single mom for about 10 of those wonderful years and worked so very hard to take care of my children everyday by myself. In fact, I am typing this comment from Panhandle Surgical Center in Amarillo after having a total left hip replacement on Tuesday morn at the age of 45. It’s amazing that as a mom you are so focused on making sure that your children are provided for you don’t realize exactly how hard you are working yourself; but honestly it wouldn’t matter to you anyway just so long as your children have their needs met. Now I am being blessed to have the wonderful experience of grandmother – yes my 17 year old is expecting – at first I was taken aback because of this happening a few years earlier than I expected; but that lasted only about a couple of minutes when just this inner calm came over me and I realized that everthing was going to be okay and this was meant to be. I had taken my daughter to the Dr. at the age of sixteen when she started dating this young man and she was placed on birth control pills – so obviously this new little person is definitely meant to make it into this world. It’s an honor and a joy to be supportive of her and the father of this new little bundle of joy that is expected to arrive 1-6-2011 (perhaps we may be blessed with the first baby of the new year here in our hometown). So back to an inspiring moment of motherhood — perhaps that just may have been yesterday afternoon when my daughter brought me her first ultrasound picture of her baby (I couldn’t make the first one because of my surgery) – my moment was the look on her face when she said “mom we could see the baby moving and everything and we saw and heard the heart being, it was amazing”. Enough said.

I am the mom of 5 boys ages 7 yrs to 2 months.I stay at home with them and I would not trade it for any thing else! It ‘s got its challanging moments but I get to see them grow and learn new things! Plus on top of that we homeschool!! We stay busy and are very thankful for our little blessings in life!!

As we all know it is a little hard to call our life (job as a mom) inspiring or memorable because we wouldn’t trade it for anything. The most memorable experience for me thus far has been breastfeeding. It is a labor of love. In the beginning we had latch issues that were resolved with a shield. Then there are the inconsistent supply issues while pumping at work. Somehow thought it always works itself out and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I have an amazing 7 month old daughter who is very well behaved in public, has no stranger anxiety and laughs constantly. All the other stuff is not nearly as important when her smile lights up the room and you know it is just for you. She is my inspiration.

I am a stay at home mom to a 5 year old girl and a 2 year old boy. My most recent memorable moment? I found a woodtick in my daughter’s hairline – she cried and cried and I had to pull it out quickly so she wouldn’t be scared. The next day she asked me, “Mom, can you check my head for tic-tacs?”

  26. Priscilla H. says:

I have so many fav/special moments. One of the recent was the first time my daughter looked at me and said “thank you mommy” after I had given her something she asked for. AWWW. And even better was the first time she said “thank you daddy” to her dad and the look on his face! Priceless :)

I think the most wonderful moments are the ones in which my son is just laughing his little heart off. He’s hilarious, and he makes me laugh so much!!

  34. Amanda C says:

It’s hard to decide which memorable moment to share because I have lots of them with my four kids. My first three pregnancies were pretty easy. I had no complications with them. I had three healthy babies by c-section. I expected my fourth pregnancy to also be uneventful. Unfortunately, I had a miscarriage at 9 weeks. The pregnancy had been ectopic. I was very sad for months afterward. My husband and I decided that we really wanted to have one more child. I got pregnant for the fifth time. My doctor wanted me to go to the hospital to have an ultrasound done. The next day, she called me herself. The good news was that the baby was in the uterus. The bad news was that it didn’t appear to have a heartbeat. I had to wait a week to have another ultrasound done at my doctor’s office. I was really scared to look at the monitor during the ultrasound because I didn’t want to face more bad news. The tech didn’t seem concerned. After a few minutes, she said look at the little heart. I held my breath and noticed that it was beating. I can still see that tiny heart when I think about it. The hospital tech had not measured correctly. As it turns out, the baby had only been five weeks along. At six weeks the heart starts to beat. I had a healthy baby boy in January 2009.
